Orange Basil Vinaigrette

by Lauren

Vinaigrette sounds so fancy. But really, it’s so simple a caveman could do it.

Maybe cavemen did do it?

All you have to do is blend or whisk together the following:

1. Oil – olive oil or vegetable oil

2. Vinegar and/or Citrus juices – balsamic, white wine vinegar, red wine vinegar, rice vinegar, orange juice, lemon juice, lime juice

3. Seasonings – garlic + salt and pepper + your favorite combination of herbs and spices

Wham bam. Just like that you have a fancy pants vinaigrette.

I usually like my oil to vinegar ratio at at least 1:1 (sometimes with more vinegar than oil) but others may tell you 2:1 is better. It really depends on how strong the vinegar is that you are working with.

You should dip a piece of lettuce in at different ratios to see what you like best.

  2. Great idea, I’ve been meaning to make homemade dressings in my vitamix, just haven’t gotten around to it yet! And the packets for Good Seasonings Italian dressing are getting kind of old, so I can’t wait to try this fresh new vinaigrette!
