Fish Sandwich with Homemade Tartar Sauce

Good news guys. Chris went spearfishing again!

Well, good news for me. You just get to look at the end result. Sorry about that.

Regardless, I’ve got a fabulously fresh fish sandwich recipe for ya’.

You may have seen a sneak peek already in this post from the weekend.

Well, I sent that same picture of a picture to Chrissy while she was on a date.

In retrospect, that was pretty evil of me.

If I had to guess, seeing this probably threw her off her game.

I’d be pretty darn distracted and more than slightly envious if I knew she was eating this while I was away…

Lucky for her, I was kind enough to save the left overs so she could indulge for lunch the next day.

I know, I know. You all wish you could have me as a roommate now, don’t you?

This moist and flakey, fresh fish sandwich wouldn’t be the same without its other half: tangy sweet tartar sauce.

P.S. What else can you eat with tartar sauce besides fish? Are my leftovers useless? Help!

Fish Sandwich with Homemade Tartar Sauce

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 cup bread crumbs

1 egg, beaten

2 lbs. fresh sea bass (or other flakey white fish)

4 rolls, toasted

1 1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper

Garnish with:

Dill, radishes, extra lemon, lettuce, and tomato.

Tartar Sauce

1/2  cup sweet relish

1/2  cup mayonnaise

1 1/2 teaspoons yellow mustard

1/4 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon fresh chopped dill

1 scallion thinly sliced

1/2 lemon, juiced

Few drops hot sauce

Heat oil in skillet. Combine bread crumbs with salt and pepper. Dip the fish in egg then roll in the bread crumbs. Once hot, add the fish to the skillet (it should sizzle) and cook 4-5 minutes on each side.

Whisk together all the  ingredients to make the tartar sauce.

Spread tartar sauce onto the toasted roll. Add tomato, lettuce, and fish. Top with extra dill, sliced radishes and another squeeze of lemon.

  1. Funny story. I could never eat fast food burgers, etc. The only thing I would ever eat at McDonald’s when I was a teenager was the Filet ‘O Fish. I know, weird. I’m not sure I could eat one now but this looks SO good to me! I would absolute 100% love it.

  2. Ohh I looove a good fish sandwich! My family stopped observing Lent yeeears ago, but I used to love Fridays during Lent because it was the one time during the year we’d get fish! My mom HATED fish but my Dad LOVED fish (and, one of the few things he could actually cook, I might add) and took full advantage of being allowed to cook it :)

  3. I love moist sandwhiches. They just keep your mouth so juicy! I’ll have to make this one :-)
