If you are in San Diego, get excited for the upcoming week of the ultimate restaurant tasting experience.
From January 15th to the 20th, just plan on eating out every night.
As you know, we have done many local tastings, but restaurant week is a whole other ball game. This week (or sometimes two, if they decide to have an encore), a variety of the top eateries in the lovely city of San Diego, will be holding a special 3-course pre-fixe menu for those who wish to partake. It is a great way to try all of those tasty places that you have heard great things about.
Lucky for us, our friends over at McFarlane hooked us up with a special preview of the SD Restaurant Week menu over at Café Japengo in La Jolla.
Here is what we ate (don’t be jealous, you can try it too!):
The Appetizer: (obviously we ordered one of each)
Spicy Seafood Salad: seaweed, cucumber, and various raw pieces of fish
Thai Chicken Salad: Greens, mushroom, Hawaiian papaya, peanut dressing and crispy wontons
Vietnamese style Chicken Spring Rolls.
Beef Yakitori: tasty Asian marinated beef on a sick served over a mizuna green salad
The Main Dish:
Kona Seared Ahi: roasted garlic mashed potatoes, spicy grilled bok choy, with a tropical mango beurre blanc sauce
Char Su Roasted Duck Breast: woked vegetables, bacon, plum sauce and steamed bao bun
Protein Roll and Carne Asada Roll (which was really seared ahi, not actual “carne asada”!)
The Sweets:
Chocolate Lave Cake: served with the most glorious vanilla bean gelato and caramel sauce
Pan Fried Bread Pudding: with a poached asian pear, caramel sauce, and a decadent coconut gelato.
There is our meal, now let’s see yours!
San Diego’s Restaurant week starts on January 15 and goes until the 20th. Let’s hope for an encore week to follow; there are SO many great restaurants to try!
