Just like the recent fro-yo movement, burger joints are popping up all over the place like daisies in the springtime. (or If your a true Californian, like us, I should say they are spreading like brushfires in October.)

I say the latter statement, because it’s an inevitable truth. Once, we had a week off of school due to fires. It was fittingly named, “Fire Week”. I kid you not. Here, we don’t get socked in by snowstorms, hurricanes, or tornadoes; but rather we get evacuated by fire and smoke, instead.

I’m not going lie, even though it was sad to see so many scorched houses, it was cool having a week off classes. It wasn’t cool, however, that I coincidentally had my driver-side car window stuck open, thus having to drive around in the thick smoke and ash with a make-shift turban around my head and face to filter the filthy air.

What a tangent. Let’s get back to the burger. The Smashburger, in particular. Look for this sign, and you will know you’re in the right place.

This awesome eatery provides a great alternative to the plain old burger and fries. In addition to the several whomping signature burgers on the menu to choose from, they also provide a customizable option that is teaming with gourmet toppings and spreads, such as garlic sautéed mushrooms or a fried egg, a variety of cheeses (not just boring American), and your choice of bun, such as the spicy chipotle bun or the healthier multi-grain bun.

 

Not to mention they offer great sides, such as the sweet potato fries, fried veggies or pickles, and the blue cheese wedge salad!

Best of all, they apparently have a secret menu; I mean, how exciting is that!?

We had the pleasure of attending the grand opening in Rancho Penasquitos and are getting excited for the upcoming opening in Kearny Mesa, which is on September 8th!
